For Readers

There are several ways to find information on Discovery Medicine’s publishing platform.

1. Browse the home page.

2. Browse categories and tags.

3. Browse Discovery Medicine journal issues by the issue number.

4. Search the article database using Discovery Medicine’s powerful search function with instant indexing capability (articles are searchable immediately after being published). Search results can be sorted by relevancy or publishing date.

5. Click relevant links in the article text as you read. These links are generated by Discovery Medicine’s site-wide cross-linking capability.

6. Follow a list of related articles just below a full-text article, which are matched and compiled by Discovery Medicine’s sophisticated matching and analysis software algorithm.

For viewing and printing articles in their professionally laid-out format, you may consider subscribing to Discovery Medicine’s article PDF Reprints database (link at the site’s upper-right corner).

For Authors

You can log in to your publishing platform account, where you can compose your latest article or biography/C.V. pages, manage drafts and revisions, and update your account profile. You can publish two types of contributions:

1. Reviews and original research articles with a minimum of 1,500 words in length (excluding the abstract and the reference list). These contributions are published on the website AND in the Discovery Medicine journal. They are indexed by MEDLINE/PubMed. Review articles will be peer-reviewed and published within one week after acceptance for publication. Original research articles will be peer-reviewed and published within two weeks after acceptance for publication. PDF Reprints will be professionally laid out and produced and will be provided to authors.

2. Short contributions, from 50 words to a few hundred words, of research summaries (mostly based on your or others’ published work), commentaries, opinions, and ideas. These contributions will be reviewed by Editors and are published on this website only, usually within one day after submission. As with the articles published in the journal, these short articles will be posted on the site’s home page on a rolling basis and are indexed by the site’s search engine (site search) and by major search engines such as Google and Yahoo.

There is a Help document conveniently accessible through the rich text composition toolbars on the composition page (see the screenshot below). The Help page covers in detail topics on text input, uploading and inserting figures/images, figure legend, making tables, assigning categories and tags, revisions and revision comparison, co-authors, manuscript submission, etc. Please read the Help page before proceeding to compose.

Discovery Medicine's web composition text editor tool set, with capabilities of inserting special characters, formatting text to superscript or subscript, uploading and embedding figures and images, entering figure legends (such as this one), making tables, pasting text from Microsoft Word (button shown), spell-checking, finding and replacing, etc. The Help button is shown.

To emphasize a few points on composing a contribution:

1. Authors are advised to compose and spell-check in Microsoft Word and paste the text into the composition text editor using the “Past from Word” button if the text is expected to be more than a few hundred words.

2. In order for special characters (such as α and β) to be pasted properly from Word to Discovery Medicine’s composition text editor, these special characters need to be included in Word through the Insert Symbol function not through the Symbol font. This is a good practice for preparing a Word document in general.

3. As a convention, thumbnails or medium-size versions of figures and images are inserted into the article, with links to their full-size versions.

4. Access the Help page whenever there’s a question.
